Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
ACNM seeks a hands-on collaborative midwife with experience in global outreach projects, global grant development and management, and education of midwives trained in global outreach activities. The candidate will develop and maintain a comprehensive business plan to support global business strategies, oversee scope of work on global contracts and direct multiple global consultants in meeting deliverables locally and abroad. The candidate will work closely with the CEO and Director of MPEGO to advise on global market trends, future-outlook and build strong partnerships domestically and globally with maternal health organizations. We seek a midwife who has in-depth knowledge of clinal practice, the political landscape, global trends and the needs of practicing midwives.
The position is full-time and based on-ground at the ACNM National Office in Silver Spring, MD. A cover letter and resume/CV is required and the position closes on September 26, 2019.
The Director of Global is a CNM/CM designated midwife by education, certification, licensure and practice. The position supports the mission and values of the organization, serves as a clinical/project management/grants representative to ACNM members, staff, and stakeholders, prepares project plans and budgets, prepares member communications to advise on public and global health, position statements and endorsements, and manages global grant projects.
The successful candidate will support ACNM’s strategic goals and core commitments, leverage expertise to the CEO, staff and volunteers across the organization, be a participative collaborator with excellent communications skills and a strong working knowledge of midwifery practice. This position supervises the Grants Manager position.
Essential Job Duties
Works closely and collaboratively with the CEO, Director of MPEGO, Vice President of Finance, Director of Government Affairs, and Director of Membership and Communications to advise on global health and midwifery practice, collaborate on policy and practice issues financial health of global projects, and address member inquiries on related matters.
Develops strategies, budgets and systems of accountability for projects funded by federal and privately financed grants relating to midwifery, women’s and maternal health in countries outside the United States.
Develops and manages relationships with outside organizations appropriate to the global outreach activities of ACNM. Engages in business development to support global grants to ACNM pertinent to the organization’s mission.
Global Outreach Activities Development and Management
Develops professional relationships appropriate to the development and management of sustainable ACNM agreements with federally and privately funded prime contractors for global outreach activities in the areas of midwifery, women’s and maternal health development systems in countries outside the United States.
Develops and manages staff, consultants and business management personnel engaged in global outreach activities on behalf of ACNM, including financial and business management activities. Identifies and maintains appropriate records and professional contacts with midwives appropriately trained and experienced in global outreach activities who may serve as technical services consultants. Identifies and develops opportunities for midwives who have an interest in serving as mentored volunteers on grant-funded global outreach activities to support such activities and to help meet contract requirements for in-kind contributions to global outreach efforts.
Accountable to the director of MPEGO to ensure the effective and sustainable conduct of ACNM global outreach activities, consistent and compliant with best practices, applicable laws and contract agreements with federally and privately funded prime contractors, staff and consultants.
Support activities of the ACNM volunteer led Division of Global Health (DGH) and attend its regular meetings.
Oversees the regular and efficient maintenance of appropriate financial, project report, and other required records associated with global outreach activities.
Develop and engage in grant-funded global outreach activities directly, to a level amounting to approximately 50 percent of the individual's level of effort (LOE) throughout a year. Approximately 10-20 percent of the individual's time over a year may be travel overseas for ACNM global work, and additional time committed to local projects and midwifery engagements.
Develops individual project work plans and assure completion of individual grant projects.
Develops and monitor budgets for these projects.
Development of Midwives Trained in Global Outreach Activities
Develop and carry out strategy, together with DGH, in developing an appropriate and sustainable training development curriculum and program intended to develop midwives for service in global outreach activities in midwfiery.
Education of Key Stakeholders and Members in Global Activities
Develop articles, online materials and educational content for ACNM publications and educational environments intended to support ACNM global outreach mission.
Monitors and reports key issues and trends related to midwifery practice and shares this knowledge throughout ACNM.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience and Education
Minimum 5 years relevant professional experience in Midwifery preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical practice research, global health projects, leadership and management, and professional advocacy and representation.
CNM or CM with master’s degree required. Previous experience must demonstrate a commitment to women's health.

Certificate, Licenses, Registration
Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Certified Midwife (CM) required.

Ability to write white papers, articles, informational resources, speeches and other communications. Ability to read and interpret statistical analysis pertinent within professional literature. Ability to prepare project and department budgets and read financial reports related to the budget.
