The purpose of this role is to provide oversight and monitoring of safe practices for the department and to function as the department educator for Women's and Children's clinical areas of labor and delivery, maternity, neonatal intensive care and inpatient pediatrics. This role reports to the Network Administrative Director of Nursing Education, Quality, Professional Practice and Research with a dotted line to the W&C Director of Patient Care Services and accountable to the W&C unit based managers.
Responsibilities: 1. NURSE EDUCATOR, PERINATAL SAFETY & W&C Criteria A: Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team and Department of Nursing Education and Research in developing and facilitating the new hire and ongoing competency based education for the clinical nursing staff; inclusive of the pursuance and maintenance of specialty certification. NURSE EDUCATOR, PERINATAL SAFETY & W&C Criteria B: Conducts evidence-based education that responds to current trends and occurrences. Facilitates clinical drills for high risk scenarios, (e.g. shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, emergency cesarean birth, neonatal resuscitation, mock codes, etc.). Leads unit based safety huddles. NURSE EDUCATOR, PERINATAL SAFETY & W&C Criteria C: Monitors outcome measures and maintains clinical dashboards for The Family Center, NICU and Pediatrics. NURSE EDUCATOR, PERINATAL SAFETY & W&C Criteria D: Follows identified trends and issues of safety and quality concerns and collaborates with department leadership to plan, implement, and track corrective actions. 2. NURSE EDUCATOR, PERINATAL SAFETY & W&C Criteria A: Promotes a high reliability organization that encourages, the reporting of adverse events and near-misses. NURSE EDUCATOR, PERINATAL SAFETY & W&C Criteria B: Participates in patient oversight by coordinating plans of care for high risk perinatal patients; facilitates root cause event investigations; and maintains any assigned corrective action plans, including audits, policy changes and staff education. NURSE EDUCATOR, PERINATAL SAFETY & W&C Criteria C: Collaborates with departmental medical and nursing leadership and Quality Coordinator to develop unit based patient safety goals, evidence-based team focused policies, procedures, and clinical practice guidelines. NURSE EDUCATOR, PERINATAL SAFETY & W&C Criteria D: Functions as a mentor, role model and clinical resource, and provides feedback to nurse managers for staff member performance evaluations.

This position requires a minimum formal education of Master Degree and minimum of three years job-related experience.
Current CT RN License. EFM, BLS, ACLS, NRP required. Labor and Delivery acute care experience. Ability to coordinate with department managers to develop unit based education plans. Ability to manage multiple priorities and support change inititiatives. Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of nursing and medical personnel. Promotes team building, leadership and professionalism through mentoring and role modeling. Strong communication skills, well developed organizational, analytical and project management skills. EFM and NRP instructor certified. ACLS and PALS instructor certified preferred.
