The Clinical Specialist acts as a consultant to address complex patient care issues, providing guidance in the prevention and management of patient care practice.
Functions as a clinical expert and health care provider, educator, collaborator, consultant, leader, and researcher for a specific patient population or specialty topic
Uses a framework for professional evidence-based nursing practice within three spheres of influence: patient/family, nursing, and system/organization
Coordinates, coaches, educates and leads the nursing staff in evidence-based clinical practice, quality improvement, and patient safety
Conducts, facilitates or applies research to enhance patient care and outcomes
Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Nursing. Education as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a focus in Women’s and Infant services or another patient population recognized in the APRN National Consensus Model. (May substitute Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in a clinically related field if approved by Senior Nursing Leadership at time of hire based upon relevant experience to the specific specialty area)
Doctorate degree in Nursing, Education, or Healthcare Administration is preferred
Five or more years of experience of progressively more responsible job-related experience in Nursing
Experience in a nursing advanced practice role is preferred
A license as a registered nurse in the District of Columbia
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
