Job Summary and QualificationsLabor and delivery nurses are unique among the different types of nurses because they have a very specific job: to help deliver healthy babies and get moms through the process safely. In essence, they are doing what some might consider the most important nursing job of all — bringing new lives into this world.

About this Unit:

Follow AWHONN Guidelines for Staffing Perinatal Units ratios.
Support staff include OB Techs and Unit Secretary.
Average annual deliveries 2800-3000.
Supportive RN leadership providing opportunities for engagement and continued professional development.

Responsibilities:

The role of the Registered Nurse is to perform patient care under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Director.
The Registered Nurse provides therapeutic and administrative services necessary for the care of the patient, and in support of the mission of Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
The Registered Nurse in 662 L&D provides care for adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 50 year.

What Qualifications You Will Need:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
Current RN licensure required.
Certifications: Ability to achieve and maintain BCLS and NRP certification required. ACLS required within one year of hire.
Minimum one-year prior experience required. Previous clinical experience in area of specialty preferred.

We have an Accredited Stroke and Chest Pain Center. Our hospital is a premier area destination for Women's & Children's healthcare services. We offer the region's only Maternal Fetal Health Center to care for critically ill mothers and their babies. Our hospital has an antepartum unit, a labor and delivery unit, and a Level III NICU. We have four emergency rooms, including a dedicated Pediatric emergency room and two freestanding ERs located in Olathe and Shawnee. Each year our colleagues treat over 45,000 patients.
