Overview:
Under the supervision of the nursing department's management, the RN assumes the responsibility for the nursing processes of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation needed to deliver safe, evidence based care within their scope of practice.

Position Summary:
Collects and assesses initial and on-going data about the health status of the patient.Initiates and/or revises an individualized plan of care that includes immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team.Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes.Evaluates patient response to intervention/therapy based upon expected outcomes.Provides patient education by explaining procedures, medications and giving instructions at a level the patient can understand; addresses patient's questions and concerns; verifies patient informed consent when indicated.Documents and communicates all required components of patient care.Provides care to acutely and critically ill patients, in a highly technical and ongoing monitoring environment.Utilizes Intensive Care Hemodynamic Monitoring in a manner which optimizes patient outcomes.Utilizes intensive care technology including but, not limited to, Continuous Renal Replacement, Continuous Cardiac Output, Intra Aortic Balloon Pumps and Induced Hypothermia Devices.Ability to rapidly assess and treat potential complications of Invasive Heart Surgery such as cardiac tamponade and rapidly occurring arrhythmias.Able to serve as a resource person for the large variety of critically ill patients whom can present to the Intensive Care Unit. Effective at coordination of care amongst the wide variety of specialties and interdisciplinary associates.Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment. Qualifications:
Required:Graduate of an accredited school of nursingAs of April 1, 2016: Cardiac Rhythm class required or must complete within six months of employment.Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.Experience/education in care of open heart population and/or continuous renal replacement therapy; knowledge of principles, methods and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and adapting or modifying standards of nursing practices for care of specific medical cases.Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Kansas.BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment.ACLS certification required or must complete within six months.New nurses with less than one year experience in the residency program required to completed within 18 months.As of April 1, 2016: Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) or six hours of trauma education (pre-approved by the trauma director) within two years of employment.Nurses with less than one year of experience in the residency program must complete within 30 months.Must maintain current TNCC or TCAR every four years or six hours of trauma education (pre-approved by trauma director) annually.Preferred:Certification for Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal Critical Care Nurse (CCRN).
