Job Details

Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center has an excellent opportunity for a certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with a minimum of two years’ experience to join our Level III NICU provider staff. This is a half-time position with the potential to evolve into full-time in the future, if desired. The provider team currently includes 4 Neonatologists and 7 Neonatal Nurse Practitioners who provide 24/7 in-house coverage for patient care and high-risk deliveries. There are minimal transport responsibilities. Our model consists of one 24-hour NNP in-house and often a second daytime NNP for up to 12 hours, 7 days a week.

Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center is a 411-bed regional tertiary care and ACS-verified Level II trauma center serving a population of 500,000, and we are the regional referral center for perinatal, neonatal, and pediatric care for the northern two-thirds of the state of Maine. Pediatric subspecialty services include surgery, gastroenterology, child neurology, cardiology, infectious disease, endocrinology, genetics, hematology-oncology, developmental pediatrics, orthopedics, and ophthalmology.

Our state-of-the-art NICU with 29 single-family rooms opened in June 2016. It has 35 beds to accommodate multiple gestations and all our rooms include en-suite space for families to stay with their newborns. We actively use iNO, whole body cooling, HFOV, bubble CPAP, and exclusive human milk feedings for pre-term infants. We have approximately 500 admissions a year, 25% of these are neonatal transports. Our neonatal transport team provides 24/7 coverage. We use an RN-RN transport model with helicopter, fixed wing, and ground capabilities. We are an active part of the Vermont Oxford Network, Northern New England Perinatal Quality Improvement Network (NNEPQIN), participate in local and statewide research and other quality improvement projects, and host medical students.

Our neonatal nurse practitioners are involved in outreach education throughout the region and serve as NRP and STABLE instructors. Candidates must be NCC certified, have prescriptive authority, and hold a current Maine license or be immediately eligible for the same.

Bangor, an award-winning small city with a population of approximately 33,000, is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. It is in the heart of Maine, just one hour from the great northern Maine wilderness, beautiful Moosehead Lake, majestic Mount Katahdin, and the world-renowned Acadia National Park. Schools rank among New England’s best. The University of Maine’s flagship campus is located just up the road in neighboring Orono and is home to the NCAA Champion Black Bears hockey team. In addition, it is home to the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and offers year-round quality productions in music and theater. Bangor serves as the regional hub for medicine, the arts, and commerce. Bangor International Airport provides connection to most major destinations.
