Delivery Care RN - Nursery

Responsibilities:
This position will function as a delivery care nurse and provide care of infant at delivery & through transition; attends deliveries to advocate for the needs of the newborn(s) after delivery; assesses and assists in safe extrauterine life adjustments of the newborn; allows skin-to-skin (STS) bonding while monitoring the stability of the newborn(s) thermoregulation, any anomalies, or signs of distress; works in conjunction with labor and delivery nurses, obstetricians, and pediatric/neonatology staff; completes the initial head-to-toe assessment, vital signs, medication administration, and any ongoing assessments of the newborn and mother during the two-hour transition period in accordance with policy; develops an individualized patent care plan, family centered patient teaching, the safety identification of the newborn, facilitating breastfeeding (as applicable); requires proficient resuscitation skills; assigns initial Apgars and facilitates skin-to-skin bonding for a minimum of 1 hour; assists with breastfeeding or feeding choices during the first hour and beyond prior to moving to Mother/Baby; assesses and re-assesses the newborn(s) respiratory and airway support using neonatal resuscitation program guidelines, thermoregulation. and metabolic stability as appropriate; develops care plans that promote, facilitate, and maintain newborn wellness. Provides newborn care at the bedside while promoting skin to skin, breastfeeding, bonding, and transition support; administers medications as needed, provides neonatal abstinence scoring and urine/meconium collection as needed, as well as blood glucose and Sa02 monitoring, lab work; implements appropriate patient care interventions and evaluates patient care interventions to ensure appropriate level of care is provided; communicates effectively with other departments to resolve issues ensuring efficient and optimal patient care outcomes; acts as mentor to Labor and Delivery & Mother/Baby Nurses as the relief to transition care during busier times; initiates appropriate teaching and/or referrals; collaborates with and seeks assistance from other health care professionals as needed; practices family centered nursing according to policies and Nurse Practice Act; serves as charge nurse when assigned; supervises, plans, evaluates, and coordinates patient care provided by other licensed and non-licensed staff; demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; serves as preceptor for new employees and nursing students; utilizes the nursing process to: assess patients, plan individual care, identify expected outcomes, implement and evaluate nursing interventions for patients and families; performs therapeutic procedures and assists with diagnostic procedures required for the care of the patient; administers medications including controlled substances by all routes; administers blood and blood products; responds appropriately to emergency patient situations; performs basic life support and management of arrest situations; starts IVs; performs activities of daily living; when performing skilled procedures the RN can state the purpose, rationale, precautions and observations related to that procedure; provides patent education by planning, coordinating and delegating, as appropriate, the educational needs of each patient. regular and prompt attendance and the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required: related duties as required.

Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama. Note: USA Health abides by the NLC requirements and guidelines for the state of Alabama.
