Overview:
Registered Nurse First Assistant, Labor and Delivery The RN First Assistant renders direct patient care as part of the perioperative role by assisting the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient. This is accomplished under the direct supervision of the Attending Surgeon and in accordance to the goals of the department of Surgery and Philosophy of the Division of nursing and the policy of the medical staff. This full-time Labor & Delivery Nurse (RN, L&D) will join us in our modern 16-bed unit with 3 C-section OR's for laboring women. Typical surgeries include but are not limited to C-Sections, tubal ligations, emergent hysterectomies, D&C. Come join a hospital dedicated to you and your career! Qualifications:
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Certificate in First Assisting Course required. Four years of Operating Room experience and demonstrated leadership ability required. Licensed as a Registered nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure in Nursing. American Heart Association BLS Certification required. Certification in Perioperative Nursing to be obtained within 12 months. CRNFA preferred.

Responsibilities:
Collaborates with surgeon and team members to prepare the patient and to prepare for the surgical intervention.Assist in positioning and draping.Identifies normal/abnormal anatomy.Modifies techniques based on findingsPrepare room/supplies based on age requirements of patient.Analyzes critical situations and plans to implements appropriate action, as team member.Interviews patient preoperatively and plans care according to patient's needs and surgical intervention; incorporates family and significant others into the assessment.Communicates relevant data to team members (physical findings, lab data, x-rays).Reports safety hazards and aseptic "breaks" in technique.Demonstrates the technical skills and knowledge of the roleRetractionProper handling of tissueSuctioning techniques.Demonstrate manual dexterity.Demonstrate proper use of instruments.Reviews postoperative orders with surgeon and relevant team members.Assist in patient's education and discharge planning.Demonstrates timely response in critical situations.Assist in management of cardiac arrests and other emergencies.
