Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) (Intermittent) (Job ID: 9828)
Summary
Denver Health is recruiting for an Intermittent/PRN Certified Nurse Midwife to join our team. As a member of the medical staff, works in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to provide care to pregnant and birthing individuals throughout the childbearing cycle including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal care in the first 28 days of life. Provides primary health care services from adolescence through menopause including the provision of gynecologic and family planning services, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, health promotion, disease prevention, and individualized wellness education and counseling. Supervises and teaches students and residents in the clinical setting. May perform administrative support functions as required. The selected individual will be joining a team of 40+ midwives and nurse practitioners and practice at our Denver Health main campus location and our outpatient midwifery practices in Denver.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Evaluates and monitors health condition of patient in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, according to standards of care and current clinical practice guidelines. Refers to specialty services as needed.
2. Assesses the health status of patients by performance of medical record review, thorough health history, and physical examination
3. Orders and interprets diagnostic tests and provides patient care accordingly
4. Admits and discharges patients to and from hospital inpatient care
5. Performs gynecologic and obstetrical procedures within scope of expertise including but not limited to provision of long-acting reversible contraceptives and limited OB ultrasound
6. Prescribes medications including controlled substances and contraceptives
7. Completes required clinical documentation in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner
8. Supports patient autonomy in decision making through education about health condition and treatment options
9. Teaches and supervises midwifery, nurse-practitioner, and medical students, and residents in the clinical setting
10. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and quality improvement projects and by reviewing current literature and updated clinical practice guidelines. May participate in practice, departmental, or organizational-level workgroups and committees.
11. Participates in monthly administrative staff meetings, clinic huddles, and periodic medical staff meetings
12. Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards
13. Promotes positive interpersonal communication with colleagues, staff, patients, and visitors and treats all with courtesy, dignity, empathy, and respect
14. Aligns all work-related activities with the mission and values of Denver Health

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
1. Master's or Doctoral-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and a midwifery program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge base consistent with the core competencies of basic midwifery practice
2. Skill in empathic communication, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care
3. Ability to evaluate and utilize research to provide high-quality, evidence-based health care
4. Ability to maintain situational awareness and respond appropriately to emergency situations in clinical settings
5. Ability to promote effective team function through clear and accurate communication and mutual support of team members
Computers and Technology
1. Computer skills required include fluency in use of Electronic Health Records, electronic email and word processing applications, and database applications.
Certificates, Licenses and Registration
1. Active Certification by American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
2. Current Colorado RN and CNM licenses
3. Provisional or full prescriptive authority in Colorado
4. Current BLS and NRP certifications
5. A ll certifications and licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment
