Shift/Hours:
These positions will rotate inpatient and outpatient shifts:
Two 12 hour labor and delivery shifts or one 24 on-call shift per week at Jefferson New Jersey - Washington Twp.
Two 8 hour clinics per week at one or more of the following locations (weekends included): Somerdale, Washington Township, Sewell, Mullica Hill, and West Deptford

PRIMARY FUNCTION :
The Midwife serves as a member within the General Division in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is eligible for faculty appointment in the College of Health Professions, Midwifery & Women's Health Programs. The midwife is responsible for full-scope midwifery care. The midwife provides independent clinical management of essentially healthy people, including: routine office well gynecologic care, management of minor gynecologic issues, antepartum/intrapartum/postpartum care, and immediate care of the newborn. The midwife will work in the hospital and office-based care settings as a member of a collaborative care team. The care team consists of OB/GYNs, midwives, NPs, RNs, social workers, and medical assistants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assessment & Management

* Performs complete history & physicals and documents in the medical record.
* Orders and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
* Provides well person gynecologic care, treatment of minor gynecologic conditions, family planning care, STI diagnosis/treatment, and antepartum/postpartum care in the office-based setting.
* Provides intrapartum/immediate postpartum care to clients of the New Jersey OB/GYN practice at Jefferson Health. The midwife would independently care for people with essentially normal labor and spontaneous vaginal deliveries, precept and teach midwifery students, residents and medical, participate in postpartum rounds.
* Care is provided in a collaborative, team based approach. The need for consultation, collaboration, and/or referral is based on jointly developed practice guidelines to optimize the physical, social, and emotional needs of our clientele.

Diagnosis

* Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team in making diagnoses.
* Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
* Formulates differential diagnoses by priority.
* Diagnoses complications and orders appropriate interventions

Formulates Plan of Care

* Identifies expected outcomes from diagnosis, and formulates and documents a plan of care to address complex acute and chronic health care needs.
* Utilizes evidenced based practice guidelines and protocols in an individualized, dynamic plan of care that can be applied across the continuum.
* Implements and modifies plan of care.
* Prescribes diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions.
* May perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation.

Documentation

* Documents/dictates key components of patient's progress via daily progress note, transfer, and discharge summary, and or clinic note where applicable. (h&p, daily progress notes, plan of care, problem lists, procedure notes, acute event note, discharge summaries, in medical record per specific patient unit or service, death summary)
* Documentation is timely, meets acute care compliance standards and captures patient acuity.

Communication and Collaboration

* Maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary health care team.
* Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the inpatient and outpatient continuum of care.

Professional Practice

* Demonstrates Professional Practice behaviors including: preceptor/mentoring, education and instruction of graduate students.
* Seeks opportunities for active engagement in research and the analysis of evidenced based practice.
* Will participate in various Department, University, and Hospital committees; attend meetings within the Division, and other divisions at the discretion of the Division Director
* Actively participates in Advance Practice Grand Rounds and specialty specific meetings.
* Maintains CEUs, and membership in a professional organization.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES needed in addition to Essential Functions:

* Maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary health care team.
* Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the inpatient and outpatient continuum of care.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS :
Masters Degree
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:
National Board Certification as a certified nurse midwife
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred but not required
