JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the obstetrical operations performed in the Operating Room located in the Labor and Delivery unit. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Performs patient care duties under the direction of a registered nurse.
Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Graduate from a Surgical Technologist training program OR has one-year previous operating room experience as a Surgical/Delivery Room Technologist OR three years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
BLS required.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
NRP is preferred.
Preferred completion of a fetal monitoring workshop and an orientation to learn surgical asepsis.
