Looking for Lactation Experience ( CLC & IBCLC) RN.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under minimal directions of the Manager, the Patient educator provides pre-approved standardized education to maternity inpatients and community clients utilizing the nursing process. The patient's family members and significant others may be included in the education process. Inpatient and community educational tools utilized are evidenced-based practices and reflect MPRO, Joint Commission or other professional/regulatory requirements. Education includes information about Labor and Delivery, Postpartum Care, Newborn Care, formula feeding, breastfeeding, infant and child CPR, Pediatric First Aid and Infant Bereavement support. The educator supports nursing personnel, collaborates with other health care professionals and coordinates ancillary staff. Education includes key points to prepare the patient and family for discharge. The educator may provide infant bereavement support to families who have experienced a neonatal infant loss, along with coordinating and assisting nursing personnel or other agencies with necessary documentation. The educator functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. All teaching activity must be documented on the designated tools period. Patient education may take place at the bedside or in a classroom setting.

1. Interacts with patients, staff and/or class participants to assess educational needs and initiates education plan of care.

2. Evaluates patients/class participants understanding of information given by either verbal patient feedback, demonstration or written class evaluation.

3. Assumes responsibility for other duties assigned.

4. Demonstrates ability to work independently and desire for professional development.

5. Demonstrates application of Patient and Family Care Concepts in clinical practice.

6. Completes all mandatory training/education competencies required for job classification.

7. Ensures and enhances facility safety, and regulatory outcomes including National Patient Safety Goals.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A. Education / Training:

· Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an associate's degree or higher. Diploma, A.D.N., B.S.N., M.S.N., DNP/PhD - if not minimum BSN prepared, new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience is required to sign an educational contract upon hire to complete BSN within specified timeframe and adhere to contract stipulations. RN must enroll in an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of licensure date and complete within the next four (4) years. This is effective September 1, 2017.

B. Work Experience:

· Minimum 1 year of Perinatal Nursing experience required. Lactation Experience ( CLC & IBCLC).

C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:

· RN license in the State of Michigan.

D. Other Qualifications:

· Interpersonal skills and communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:

A. Physical Effort: Prolonged periods of walking, standing, presenting, and communicating.

B. Work Environment: Employee may be: Occasionally exposed to hazardous material other than blood, body tissues, or fluids, such as other chemical hazardous materials and electromagnetic radiations as in CRT's. Occasionally exposed to blood, body tissue or fluid.
