Providence Place is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center serving a vulnerable population in South Minneapolis. Supporting our 170 residents to live a high quality of life, Providence Place is unique in offering a Full Circle Care Doula program which uses the services of a trained end of life doula. Creating and holding sacred space during this time of transition.
The goal of the Providence Place End of Life Doula Volunteer is to provide care, comfort, and companionship to patients who are near the end of life. Doulas are non-medical and specially trained to navigate the challenges prior to, during, and after, death. All staff collaborate in creating a plan of care for each resident which addresses holistic best practices. Just as each individual has a different life story, we believe that each end of life experience should honor and reflect that unique journey.
Position Functions and Responsibilities
Qualifications
Doula Volunteers will have completed an approved End of Life Doula Training Program
Be available to work at least 1 - 2 days a week for a 2 - 4-hours
Provide at least a 6-month commitment
Embrace a kind, caring, and respectful attitude
Attend volunteer training
In accordance with CMS Vaccine Mandate, candidate must provide proof of Covid-19 Vaccine or submit documentation for exemption

Position Functions and Responsibilities
- Listen as residents and caregivers explore and define what matters most
- Support for emotional, social, and physical challenges for each resident at of end of life
- Assist between family, care providers, and hospice staff to address comfort needs of resident
- Provide integrative therapies including essential oils, massage, spiritual support, music, guided imagery, contemplative art, walks, and pet therapy
- Meeting with assigned group of residents on each visit
- Meet resident where they are and advocating for their needs and wishes
- Reporting to care team when pain management is required
- Charting on visit
- Support family members as able including holding vigil during the final hours
