The NICU nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for an assigned number of patients for a designated time frame and provides direct patient care to the new-borns and neonates admitted to the NICU/Special Care Nursery as defined by the approved admission criteria.
That care extends to all family members as appropriate using the nursing process.
The NICU nurse is accountable to the Director of Obstetrical Services and is also under the direction of a designated Charge Nurse for a given work shift.
