Job Description
SIGN ON BONUS $15,000

The Labor and Delivery Unit (L&D) is a 10 bed, 2 operating room floor that has approximately 60 employees. There are anywhere from 150-180 deliveries per month and the average census varies from day to day. They typical patient population includes laboring patients, preterm labor, ante partum monitoring, and high-risk pregnancies. The unit runs on 12-hour shifts.

  • SUMMARY
    • Demonstrates 24-hour accountability for clinical, operational, human resources and financial management of the department. Is accountable for the delivery of high quality patient care in a work environment conducive to learning, professional growth, accountability and autonomy.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Clinic Management
      • Ensures department functioning in accordance with regulatory agencies, state statutes, and practice standards, i.e., TJC, OSHA, CMS, HIPPA.
      • Promote use of evidence-based practice in planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical practice.
      • Champion the values of the EHS Professional Practice Model and uses the Elliot s nursing theory to guide all dimensions of nursing practice.
      • Support the Elliot Health System policies and procedures for the delivery of safe patient care and collaborate in the review and revision of nursing departmental policies, procedures, and protocols, guidelines, and standards of care.
      • Collaborate with Resource Nurses, Clinical Nurse Educators, Patient Care Managers and staff to develop, implement, and monitor departmental educational programs.
    • Operations Management
      • Foster participation in the development and implementation of annual departmental goals and objectives, which are consistent with those of Elliot Health System and in collaboration with the Medical Director and other members of the health care team.
      • Participate in the development of business and marketing plans.
      • Ensure that appropriate experience mix and number of staff are available to meet the needs of the patient population.
      • Collaborate on interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate quality management activities consistent with national benchmarking and public reporting.
    • Human Resources Management
      • Champion Elliot Essentials: I Care, I Serve, I Inspire.
      • In conjunction with Human Resources Department, interview and select candidates for employment. With support of Director, initiate and approve personnel activities including, but not limited to hiring, transferring, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and terminating.
      • Consistent with the principles of TeamSTEPPS, foster positive interdisciplinary communications and teamwork.
      • In collaboration with the Resource Nurses, establish and communicate performance expectations and assist with development of professional goals of each staff member. Monitor and evaluate staff performance. Conduct timely in-the-moment coaching and annual performance evaluations.
      • Support the shared governance structure consistent with the principles of the ANCC Magnet Program. Delegate responsibility and accountability as evidenced by staff involvement and ownership in committees, projects, educational programs and unit goals.
      • Motive and encourage participation in the Professional Nursing Advancement Program.
      • Evaluate trends related to vacancy and turnover. Develops plans to address needs of department.
    • Financial Management
      • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing Finance to prepare annual departmental budget including projected census, revenues, staffing plans, operating expenses and capital related requests. Involves staff and medical staff when possible.
      • Manage FTE levels and productivity standards.
      • Monitor and report monthly financials, identify variances, and recommend improvements.
      • Monitor, approve, and submit complete and accurate payroll
    • Professional Management
      • Maintain and updates knowledge and skills in leadership, management and clinical specialty.
      • Demonstrate active involvement in hospital and/or nursing committees.
      • Represent Elliot Health System in professional and/or community organizations and boards.
      • Maintain membership in a professional organization.
  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
    • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required.
    • Experience: Three (3) years of recent clinical experience required. Previous management or leadership experience preferred.
    • Certification/Licensure:Current New Hampshire or multi state licensure as Registered Nurse. Life support authorization (BLS) required within six months of hire. Professional specialty certification is preferred.
    • Software/Hardware: Ability to advance basic computer skills as the health system adds new systems or performs upgrades to existing systems.
