Overview
Responsible for the care of a designated group of patients in a structured setting through the appropriate utilization of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development relative to patients served and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies, procedures, and standards of care. Participates in research when appropriate and incorporates research findings into clinical practice.

Qualifications
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
  • Current RN license in the State of Illinois required.
  • Healthcare Provider or Instructor BLS certification required within 30 days of hire date.
  • NRP Provider or Instructor certification required within first 6 months of hire date.
Experience:
  • Meets credit range for Clinical Ladder levels as follows (12 months experience as a registered nurse is required in order to apply for promotion in the clinical ladder):
  • Clinical Nurse I: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 0-12 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid. BSN preferred.
  • Clinical Nurse II: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 13-24 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least two categories of the Grid. BSN preferred.
  • Clinical Nurse III: Registered Nurse who achieves at least 25 - 35 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least three categories on the Grid. BSN required.
  • Clinical Nurse IV: Registered Nurse who achieves at least 35 credits on the Clinical Ladder with evidence of behaviors from at least three categories on the Grid. Enrollment in BSN or MSN program or completion of BSN required.
Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcome, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Enters orders into computer as indicated.
  • Cares for and evaluates prenatal patients; Hyperemesis, pylonephrosis, etc.
  • Triages outpatients for Preterm labor and cares for observation patients.
  • Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency that support our mission, vision and values:
  • Deals competently with medical emergencies including prolapsed cord, breech delivery, post partum hemorrhage, precipitous delivery, uterine rupture, management of meconium, abruption placenta, placental previa.
  • Performs fetal heart monitoring, and interprets tracings appropriately.
  • Participates in deliveries as circulator for delivery or as neonatal nurse.
  • Prepares patient for scheduled cesarean section or emergency section.
  • Cleans equipment and restocks following deliveries.
  • Assess condition of the newborn, including gestational exam.
  • Cares for a patient with a fetal demise and assists through the grieving process.
  • Teaches and supervises the proper performance of nursing acts that have been delegated to others and monitors nursing care of other health care team members.
  • Promotes patient/client education, and involves the patient and significant others in implementation of health goals.
  • Participates in specific patient quality assessment activities, including chart review.
  • Performs entry of security tags into the Halo infant security system and monitor alarms.
  • Performs patient entry into the QS fetal surveillance system.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.
