Description:

General Summary:

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating the nursing care to a specified group of patients. Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital. LPNs working in L&D and under the supervision of the RN will be proficient in placing patient on the fetal monitor, scrub duties during a C-section and recovering delivered patient in LDRs and/or PACU.

Minimum licensure/certification required (if applicable):

* Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse
* AHA BLS trained

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

* High School Diploma or General Education Diploma. Licensed Practical Nurse licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing required.
* Successful completion, according to hospital policy, of the Pharmacology review and test given by Holy Cross Hospital within the probationary period.
* Demonstration of competence in administering medications according to Holy Cross Hospital standards within the probationary period.
* Certified in IV therapy according to Holy Cross Hospital policy within the probationary period.
* Reads, writes, speaks, and comprehends the English language.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: May be required to lift to 35 pounds as determined by the nature of the nursing unit. Must be able to push, pull, lift patients. Must be able to push, pull, lift, and move patient care equipment, i.e.: beds/stretchers. Must be able to bend body downward at the waist and be able to kneel. Must be able to utilize a computer for periods of time throughout the shift, dependent upon the specific position.

Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly at distances close to the eyes.

Auditory Acuity: Must have sufficient acuity to identify auditory alarms in noisy environments.

Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to hazards associated with a hospital environment.

Must have visual accuracy and auditory acuity. Must be able to coordinate eyes and hands quickly and accurately.

Reporting Relationship:

Directly supervised by and accountable to the Director, Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, Team Leader, or Registered Nurse for work direction.
