Summary:

The Sage RN position is designed to harness the expertise and skills of the experienced RN who has recently retired but has a desire to remain active within nursing and patient care. Through this position the seasoned RN is able to support the Summa mission and vision by sharing their knowledge and skill, while providing guidance to newer nurses within the organization. The Sage RN provides direct patient care or supports the delivery of high quality patient centered care through other nursing related activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Formal Education Required:

a. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing or a school accepted for candidacy status from an accrediting body

b. Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio

2. Experience and Training Required:

a. Must be an RN who has a minimum of 5 years of total RN experience and has not been separated from employment in a Registered Nurse position within Summa Health for more than 2 years.

b. Must be considered as retiring/retired as per the IRS definition of retirement.

c. Current demonstrated clinical competence

d. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

a. Requires standing and walking for periods of time

b. May require full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination

c. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range

d. Possible exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.

e. Must maintain current Basic Life Support certification and possess all clinical and certification requirements of the area in which they will be working.

4. Population Specific Competency:

a. Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect, dignity and diversity.

5. Level of Physical Demands: Variable

a. Medium to Heavy: May include exerting from 20-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible up to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
