Director (RN) of NICU

HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood is a 439-bed acute care facility that has provided quality care to the Lake Houston area for over 25 years. It is home to the area's only comprehensive cardiac, neuroscience and women services programs. Our Women & Children's Center provides Level II and III neonatal intensive care units, high-risk obstetrics, a breast diagnostic center, a designated pediatric unit, and the area's only pediatric emergency department.

HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood is affiliated with HCA Houston Healthcare, part of the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division. The division is a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, emergency centers and diagnostic imaging facilities in greater Houston, Corpus Christi and South Texas. Facilities include: 17 hospitals, nine ambulatory care centers, 13 off-campus emergency centers, and a regional transfer center.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible and accountable for nursing care rendered in the department, based on the Nursing Process--assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in compliance with Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for coordination and integration of intradepartmental services and interdepartmental services, which includes ancillary departments.
  • Assures development and implementation of policies and procedures in conjunction with the Medical Director of NICU and the Chairman of Pediatrics, who guide and support the provision of services.
  • Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to provide care for the patients in Neonatal Nurseries and on Pediatrics.
  • Responsible for determination of the qualifications and competence of personnel in the Neonatal Nurseries and Pediatrics who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners.
  • Assures continuous assessment and performance improvement of care and services provided in the Neonatal Nurseries and Pediatrics Unit.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality control programs, as appropriate.
  • Assures appropriate orientation and inservice training and continuing education of all personnel in the NBN, NICU, NICU Transport and Pediatric Unit.
  • Provides recommendations for space and other resources needed by the Neonatal Nurseries and Pediatrics Unit.
  • Participates in the selection of sources for needed services not provided by the department or the organization.
  • Integrates service into the organization's primary functions.
  • Maintains and improves own nursing knowledge.
  • Assures maintenance and provides oversight for the Neonatal Transport Team.

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education and Training:
  • BSN required, MSN preferred.

Minimum Work Experience:
  • Three (3) plus years of NICU/Nursery or Pediatrics experience
  • Two (2) years of management experience

Special Qualifications
  • Current Texas licensure with Texas State Board of Nurses
  • RNC Certification preferred.
  • Educational requirements appropriate for meeting population-specific needs.
  • Current BCLS from the AHA
