Overview

Assumes a leadership role in assessing, planning, developing, coordinating, delivering and evaluating educational programs for licensed and unlicensed nursing staff. Educational programs include orientation, continuing education/inservices, coordination of innovative programs (Nurse Residency, Multi-Skilled Technicians, etc.) as assigned, and competency management.

Responsibilities

* Assesses ongoing staff educational needs using a variety of data sources and techniques including formal and informal queries of staff, nursing leaders and other stakeholders. Gathers data related to staff performance, safety issues and trends. - Plans, develops, coordinates, delivers and evaluates nursing orientation for all levels of bedside caregivers. - Based on identified needs, plans, develops, delivers and evaluates general and/or unit specific continuing education programs. - Collaborates with clinical leaders in the development of periodic learning needs assessments and education plans. - Develops and maintains electronic records and reports required to document educational activities including program evaluations and archiving of educational material. - Develops and validates staff competencies based on high-risk or problem prone skills and/or new processes or equipment. Incorporates age-related considerations as appropriate. - Serves as an educational consultant to inter-professional teams, leaders and stakeholders to facilitate nursing practice and positive healthcare outcomes. - Integrates ethics, regulatory and best practices in the development of educational activities as applicable. - Assumes leadership in the development, education and interpretation of policies, procedures and guidelines. - Maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing professional development practice as well as instructor status of standardized AHA or other courses. Establishes and maintains affiliation with at least one professional organization. - Uses evidence-based teaching strategies, techniques and technology to promote positive learning and practice environments. - Rounds on staff to assess learning needs, troubleshoot learning or performance issues and provide education and clinical support. - Assures education for CNE is documented according to ASNA and/or ABN guidelines. - Performs periodic environmental scans related to educational or healthcare trends that assist in updating and guiding education and nursing practice. DCH Standards: - Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation. - Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook - Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self. - Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. - Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures. - All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Master of Science in Nursing with current Alabama nursing licensure. A minimum of 5 years clinical experience with that experience being in area of current clinical education need. Teaching experience required and leadership experience preferred. Ability to communicate well and speak with ease in front of large groups. Computer skills required with experience in Outlook, Power Point, Publisher, Word, Excel and others preferred. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English. Working Conditions Physical: Physical presence onsite is essential. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Able to: lift /carry 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Able to do frequent stooping, kneeling, reaching; tolerates prolonged periods of sitting/standing. Vision and hearing normal or correctable to normal. Able to run in an emergency.
