SUMMARY:
As a RN Lactation Consultant, your demonstrated empathy, patience and excellent ability to guide are key in preparing mothers to breastfeed and providing safe care for infants.
STATUS: Full Time
DEPARTMENT: Women's Care - Postpartum
ATTRIBUTES
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* 2 years experience as a lactation consultant
* Strong analytical, computer, and communication skills:
* RN licensed in New York
* International board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) must be completed within 1 year of hire.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Program Development. Inform about the nutritional and physiological benefits of human milk; assist with decision making; provide anticipatory guidance concerning common problems associated with breastfeeding; describe and encourage good infant rooting, latching and suck-swallow pattern; discuss dietary requirements, medications or other substances which may have an effect on breastfeeding
* Individualized Care. Provide individualized assistance to mothers with an identified lactation problem
* Leadership & Collaboration. Collaborate with other health workers in maintaining frequent and regular communication with the breastfeeding dyad; assist with staff education including all aspects of lactation management and clinical issues
