UNIT DESCRIPTION
The NICU/Neonatal Transport Service provides care and treatment for high-risk neonates. Evaluation and treatment begins at the referring facility and is continued during the neonateas hospital stay. Care in the NICU is provided until the patient is discharged home or transferred to another facility. Childrenas Neonatal Service is an extension of services provided by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Childrenas Hospital. This service locates a neonatal nurse clinician at referral hospitals to assist with newborn care at the time of deliveries as well as the provision of neonatal expertise throughout the childbirth continuum. The NICU is staffed with registered nurses and complemented by IBCLC Certified Lactation Consultants, Patient Care Assistants (PCAas), Transport Technicians, Lactation Technicians, and Health Unit Coordinators who work under the direction of the RN in providing patient care. Neonatal nurse clinicians demonstrate competency in advanced skills including endotracheal intubation, umbilical catheter placement, and needle thoracentesis.

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education Bachelors Preferred

Minimum Work Experience Pediatric nursing experience preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications for position Nursing Licensure for State of Tennessee

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Excellent communication and customer service skills.A
Demonstrated clinical abilities.

Heavy lifting, pushing and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
