The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Spanish speaking **_Nurse Midwife_** to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary health team, responsible for providing comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care to both ambulatory patients and inpatients. Educates and manages care in the antepartum, intra partum, and postpartum continuum.

The Nurse Midwife practices within the guidelines of the department, and the Institution in accordance with the State of Maryland. The Nurse Midwife is granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and the Johns Hopkins Hospital; these privileges are renewed annually.

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities:**

_GYN/OB Clinic_

+ Provides urgent and non-urgent care to antepartum and postpartum patients through one-on-one patient visits or through the obstetrical Centering Pregnancy model.

+ Cares for gynecologic patients seeking well-woman care or problem-focused gynecologic care (including abnormal bleeding, contraception, etc.).

+ Orders appropriate labs, ultrasounds, and consults as needed. Initiates contraception for postpartum patients (IUD-insertion and removals, OCP, Depo-Provera, etc.)

+ Conducts postpartum-evaluation, intervention, and care of postpartum patients. Provides appropriate teaching, education, and information with postpartum care. Also assists with lactation and family planning.

+ Serves as a resources and educator of medical and nursing students and residents

+ Evaluation and management of gyn problems and well-womens care.

_OB Triage/Labor and Delivery coverage:_

+ Intrapartum-completes history, physical assessment, admissions, frequent evaluation of labor progress and interventions as needed. Management of labor and delivery, including possible complications and repairs.

+ Circumcision-Circumcising newborn babies in nursery and NICU.

+ Education-Serve as a resources and educator of medical and nursing students and residents.

Potential to do in-office procedures

**Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):**

+ Master's Degree in Nursing.

+ Registered Nurse Maryland license

+ Certified as a Nurse Midwife.

+ Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.

+ Completion of the credentialing process is required prior to start date

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Prefer candidates with midwifery experience

+ Experience performing endometrial and vulva biopsies.

+ Sonography

+ Vacuum extraction

+ Assists with cesarean deliveries

+ Spanish speaking very strongly preferred

**Physical Requirements:**

+ Sitting, standing and walking for extended period.

+ Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

+ Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s).

+ Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

**_JHU Equivalency Formula:_** _30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job._

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
