Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - P3

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 39-bed Level-III NICU where a multidisciplinary team cares for the hospital's smallest patients. These newborn patients present with conditions such as prematurity; respiratory distress; seizures; birth anomalies; and metabolic disorders. Medical care modalities include intubation and ventilator care, nitric oxide, nasal CPAP, therapeutic hypothermia, surgical approaches, use of donor breast milk and neonatal transport.

This highly collaborative interprofessional team includes neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and case managers/social workers. The engaged nursing staff has an average nurse to patient ratio of 1:2. The hospital is Baby-Friendly designated with a dedicated lactation consultant team, including expertise with NICU moms and babies. The NICU shares the same suite as the Labor & Delivery Unit allowing the teams to work seamlessly and keep moms and babies close. The unit also has three overnight rooms to accommodate parents who may need to stay additional nights near baby.
