Responsibilities:
Expectations:Provides support to mother/infant dyads with breastfeeding needs and lactation problem in a manner developmentally appropriate for adolescents and adults as necessary; Accountable for evaluation of continuous quality improvement, and compliance with hospital policy and procedure.Instructs mothers on all tasks necessary to initiate and maintain lactation during the infants hospitalization; may include prenatal instruction and post-discharge follow-upEvaluates breastfeeding oral motor mechanics of infants and milk transfer making appropriate recommendations and management strategiesDocuments observations, assessments and recommendations made during consultation in patient recordPerforms all tasks necessary to ensure the mothers adherence to quality control departmental policies related to milk collection, storage and transportObtains information on maternal medication use and evaluates its compatibility or prohibitive status related to breastfeeding or expressed breast milk feedingAttends continuing education Workshops, seminars and in-services and fulfills all mandatory education requirements as documented on staff development rosterAttends staff meetings and/or reads minutes 90% of the time to keep abreast of current information as documented in meeting sign-in sheetsParticipates in Hospital Performance Improvement activities, offers written or verbal recommendations and Participates in development of team goals on a yearly basis

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Associates Degree in Nursing or DiplomaBachelors in Nursing PreferredLactation Consultant (IBCLC) requiredLicensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas BLS with skills demonstration Minimum Experience:Two (2) year of Lactation ExperienceMinimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Excellent public relation skillsKnowledge of the principles and skills of the nursing process to provide patient care and treatment. Critical thinking skillsDemonstrates excellent interpersonal skills both written and verbalBasic Computer skills familiarity with Windows based software programs.Preferred Experience working in an acute care facility
