This RN Assistant Nurse Manager position is for Labor and Delivery, Mother Baby and NICU units.# Job Summary Responsible and accountable for the provision of quality patient care and customer services on a defined patient care unit on a 24-hour basis. Acts as a role model and coach in ensuring the team#s commitment and success in improving patient outcomes. Leads, coaches, and develops staff while also providing direct patientcare. Successfully facilitates team integration and the transition to patient-centered care. Collaborates effectively with the Director of Patient Care Services and Vice President of Patient Care. Minimum Qualifications Education/Training: Valid RN license in the State of Maryland; Bachelor#s degree in Nursing preferred. Experience: 2 years related clinical experience. License/Certification/Registration: Valid RN license in the State of Maryland. Knowledge, Skills # Abilities: Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Actively communicates new information and updates to staff. Actively participates on a multidisciplinary quality or service improvement team. Assists in developing departmental goals and initiatives and contributes to the achievement of those goals. Attends mandatory training sessions, staff meetings and town meetings and completes all mandatory education requirements on time. Counsels associates effectively and collaborates with the Nurse Manager in initiating disciplinary actions. Demonstrates leadership behavior and independent decision making. Demonstrates the ability to competently care for patients, serving as a role model for team collaboration and quality patient care. Interviews prospective associates and makes recommendations for hiring. Investigates occurrence reports and resolves incidents in a timely manner. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Provides feedback on staff performance and the assessment of staff competencies for evaluations. Serves as a coach and mentor to staff.

In collaboration with the Nurse Manager,monitors and makes recommendations related to financial, human and material resources. Assumes 24-houraccountability as necessary. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager, Service Line Director and SeniorLeadership as needed.

* Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Assists with and provides recommendations regarding the departmental operating/capital budget and ensures that the department operates within budget. May assist with payroll to include monitoring of time and attendance and utilization of the Report Express system.

* Demonstrates and fosters customer relation skills among staff. Identifies individual staff development needs and provides appropriate resources to meet needs. Encourages staff to attend educational programs.

* Ensures appropriate staffing on units. Demonstrates the ability to competently care for a group of patients, serving as a role model for team collaboration and quality patient care. Ensures that activities on unit(s) flow smoothly.

* In collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Human Resources, counsels employees effectively through the disciplinary process.

* In collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Unit Educator (if applicable), develops unit-specific orientation and preceptor program, plans and coordinates the unit-specific competencies for all personnel, supports the implementation of new programs, helps to design educational programs to ensure the highest quality care delivered and customer satisfaction, and gives staff timely and constructive feedback on performance.

* In collaboration with the Nurse Manager develops departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures and ensures compliance with governmental and accreditation regulations.

* In collaboration with the Nurse Manager interviews prospective employees, selects, trains, and schedules orientation. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review program, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.

* In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, involves staff in the development and implementation of patientcentered care. Mentors and coaches individuals based on their strengths and developmental needs. Sets clear expectations for performance and holds staff accountable. Delegates responsibility for problem solving and decision making to staff within scope of their ability.

* Investigates and follows through on customer complaints and incidents and appropriately communicates to management. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, investigates unit occurrence reports.

* Participates in multi-disciplinary quality, safety, and service improvement teams. Participates in meetings, serves on councils, and committees, and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.

* Performs other duties as assigned.
