Position Summary:

The Director of Maternal Child Health Services (D-MCHS) is responsible for overall functions of clinical operations within the MCHS units, including assigned specific programs and initiatives. The D-MCHS will provide oversight regarding nursing clinical practice including developing infrastructure and implementing effectiveness measures. The D-MCHS will provide administrative direction to management staff within areas of responsibility including supporting plan development, priority-setting, decision-making, and professional development as well as hiring and performance management. Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to; coordination of schedules, task assignments, and allocation of resources to ensure conformance with specified objectives and policies. The D-MCHS will be responsible for reviewing and approving budgetary recommendations, and preparing variance analyses of budgeted revenues and expenses. The D-MCHS will lead change regarding quality of care and operational enhancements, including implementation and communication and will work with management and staff to promote hospital policies and procedures. The D-MCHS performs functions as noted above, but is ready and willing to assist the team in direct nursing services as will be needed in times of high volume as well as in rare circumstances cross over to another unit.

All organizational staff, including this position, are specifically required as a condition of continued employment to make advance preparations for their families and pets in the event of weather emergencies such as Hurricanes and flooding threats.  Any staff member can be determined as essential staff required to report to the facility during these events. In many cases this means reporting and sleeping at the facility before, during and after a weather emergency. By signing this job description, the staff member accepts this responsibility of readiness to report to work during any designated emergency staffing situation. CMC staff members operate as one team meeting the healthcare needs of our communities, thus this position will on occasion complete other duties as assigned beyond those designated in this primary job description which may include “float” coverage at an alternate facility, department or assignment.      

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN) in Nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience:

  • Five years of Acute Hospital Clinical Nursing experience required.
  • Previous management experience in Maternal Child Health area preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as RN (SCLLR) in good standing required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life support (PALS) certification preferred.

Special Skills: 

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, physicians, department heads, and member of executive leadership required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Explorer and PowerPoint required.
  • Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practice required.
  • Knowledge of program development and administration required.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in all situations required.
  • Ability to consistently exercise independent judgement required.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to difficult patients.
  • Potential exposure to blood-borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Stress level high due to multiple demands frequently occurring simultaneously.
  • Occasional exposure to bio-hazardous materials.
  • Some work performed while sitting, however, a significant amount of walking and moving around within the facility occurs.

Physical Requirements:

Light-Medium - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 15 to 20 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 5 to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to hear to process instructions and safety code and alarms required.
