Winnie Palmer Hospital, part of Orlando Health is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Neonatal Intensive Care The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who is an expert in evidence-based nursing practice within a patient population/specialty area. CNSs advance the practice of nursing and facilitate quality patient care in collaboration with the health care team appropriate to their patient population/specialty area through integration of the following essential characteristics: Leadership, Clinical Expertise, Collaborator, Educator, Coach/Mentor, Consultant, and Researcher.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will perform acts of advanced nursing diagnosis and treatment of health status alterations, health promotion, and disease prevention. In addition, they may also perform acts of medical diagnosis, treat acute, episodic, or chronic illness, prescribe pharmaceutical, therapeutic, and durable medical equipment as authorized within the framework of the facilities’ credentialing process.

The qualified applicants must meet the following requirements:
Education/Training
Graduate from an accredited program of nursing. Minimum of master’s degree in Nursing with preparation as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Post-Master’s Certificate as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Neonatal Studies (NICU).
Licensure/Certification
- Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), qualified as a CNS, in the state of Florida renewed every two years.
- Current national CNS certification in area of specialty (if available) from an approved nursing certification corporation.
- BLS/Healthcare Providers certification.
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in area of Neonatal specialty. Must meet performance competencies.
Essential Functions
• Adheres to the organizational competencies based on the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) standards of practice and of standards developed by their specialty area.
• Uses advanced skills and in-depth clinical knowledge to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical outcomes of patients/clients across the continuum of care.
• CNS practice focuses on achieving quality, cost-effective outcomes for patient/client by influencing the practice of nursing and care at the healthcare organization/system level.
• Serves as an advanced clinical nursing resource for population/specialty area.
• Actively facilitates and participates on appropriate groups affecting clinical practice in assigned population/specialty area.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team in development of evidence-based clinical initiatives, integrating current literature and benchmark information as a foundation for process improvement to optimize patient outcomes.
• Performs ongoing nursing and collaborative clinical research to improve patient outcomes based on identified practice issues and opportunities.
• Promotes, disseminates, and integrates nursing research at all levels of nursing.
• Ensures development of proactive processes to meet or exceed regulatory compliance and accrediting agencies’ standards.
• Collects and/or uses data that influence patient outcomes and improve healthcare delivery by developing practice initiatives, processes of care, performance improvement, and research.
• Promotes professional involvement and heightened awareness for excellence in nursing practice, certification, and advanced education including active participation in professional organizations at the local, state, national, and international levels.
• Disseminates nursing evidence-based practice and research via: presentations at professional meetings, abstract submissions, publications, and/or professional organization representation at local, state, and national levels.
