Directs clinical nursing programs of the Chicago Institute for Fetal Health (CIFH). Develops and integrates clinical and perinatal nursing operations within Lurie Children’s Hospital and partner institutions. Provides leadership to manage patient care operations and ensure the delivery of excellent patient care. Co-leads teams in creating a work environment that engages staff in the attainment of department and organizational goals and vision. Understands and integrates the delivery of complex maternal fetal health care across the continuum beginning with prenatal diagnosis and throughout counseling, intervention, delivery and postnatal care. Evidences a growth strategy that focuses on regional and national programmatic visibility, safety and quality outcomes, and excellent customer service.
Essential Job Functions:
- Works with CIFH Director to promote and maintain systems for patient and family-centered models of care.
- Leads and manages nursing resources; provides nursing leadership with 24-hour accountability and maintains on call schedule for CIFH nursing operations. Accountable for clinical nursing staffing forecasting; plans and implements system changes that enhance the performance of CIFH.
- Drives the strategic and operational planning process to achieve designated outcomes; directs nursing outreach efforts and relationships; possesses a vision for CIFH services, care, and expansion and inspires excellence within each of its components.
- Provides leadership, structure, and resources to assure clinical excellence for patient care operations; responsible for the selection and ongoing development of nursing staff; assures clinical expertise by providing educational and professional development opportunities; identifies opportunities for, and develops, interdependent teams and empowers individuals to be more self-directed and interdependent.
- Facilitates collaborative partnerships with medical and leadership teams to ensure care, protocols, and processes deliver safe, quality care that meet patient needs and ensure excellent outcomes.
- Directs nursing practice standards throughout fetal health operational footprint and reports to the CIFH Director and ACNO for issues related to nursing practice.
- Plans and implements system changes that enhance organizational performance; institutes practice changes based upon evidence-based outcomes from the monitoring and evaluation of quality activities and/or nursing research.
- Accountable for financial management; collaborates with CIFH Executive Director, Director and multidisciplinary team members to establish & maintain systems that support financial accountability.
- Plans and facilitates multidisciplinary communication to assure cascading of information; develops, implements and evaluates the effectiveness of operational processes within and throughout the organization as well as with partner organizations.
- Utilizes a keen understanding of the clinical knowledge, educational support and research endeavors necessary to create excellence in patient care and relevant area(s) of specialty; develops and implements systems that ensure standardization of clinical practice; identifies, develops and monitors progress toward achievement of both unit and corporate goals and objectives; serves as a leader and guide in the project management and process improvement processes.
- Assures the delivery of comprehensive, safe, effective and appropriate care in accordance with hospital policy and practice standards, accountable to applicable regulatory and licensing requirements.
- Pursues professional opportunities and networks which enhance own professional knowledge and advancement as well as excellence within designated area(s) of responsibility and Nursing as whole.
- The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Graduate of an accredited program in Nursing at either the baccalaureate or graduate level and graduate of an accredited Master’s program in nursing, health care administration or business required.
- RN licensure in the state of Illinois.
- ANCC recognized certification relevant to area of responsibility required within 12 months of hire.
- At least five years of formal management experience required; evidence of progressive leadership roles preferred.
- Knowledge of complex maternal fetal health and neonatology services acquired through clinical experience; minimum of 10 years of combined obstetrical, neonatal or fetal medicine nursing experience required.
- Possess a broad knowledge of issues, trends, practices, and systems related to perinatal / fetal health care delivery and experience working in partnership with healthcare professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a collaborative and facilitative style.
- Basic Life Support Certification required.
- Programmatic development experience preferred.
