Department Summary:

The Maternal Child Health Department is comprised of a High Risk Antenatal Unit, Labor & Delivery Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and a Family Centered Maternity Care Unit which specialize in the care of ante-partum and post-partum mothers and babies with a variety of conditions, including diabetes and pre-eclampsia.

Part of a Baby-Friendly designated hospital, the culture of this department is highly collaborative, and staff works closely within the maternal child health department and also with other hospital areas including the adult intensive care units, the cardiovascular and pulmonary teams, social work, and case management. The Registered Nurse Lactation consultant works collaboratively on department and system initiatives to promote and support breast feeding. Lactation consultants and nurses will provide breastfeeding education prior to delivery, information for continued breastfeeding support, and community resources after discharge.

Position Summary:

Provides leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality compassionate patient care. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of patients and family. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to health care team. Participates in finding solutions for variances from patient goals and ensures implementation of solutions.

Education/Experience Required:

* Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing
* Previous 1-2 years recent related clinical nursing experience and a demonstrated level of performance and practice required
* Experience in postpartum and/or labor & delivery required


* Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing
* BLS required / NRP Preferred
* IBCLC required within 6 months of hire
