Direct services, workflow and resources for assigned nursing areas including antenatal services, high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, OB/GYN Emergency Room, post-partum, newborn nursery, OB surgery center, outpatient breastfeeding clinic and NICU.

  • Develop departmental goals and objectives consistent with medical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements of the health care delivery system.
  • Direct clinical activities, including patient assessment, care plan development, service level determination, patient visits, and complaint management.
  • Plan, organize and direct all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepare and monitor budget(s) and ensure that assigned nursing area operates within allocated funds. Coordinate and direct internal and externally-driven audits.
  • Work in collaboration with physician leaders and hospital executives on strategic and operational outcomes for the Women and Children’s service line.

    Department specifics:

    • Approximately 430 FTE-
    • 6600-7000 deliveries annually (largest program in Ascension, largest program in TN, largest program in region)
    • Leadership team includes 4 department nurse managers, 3 department assistant nurse managers, Team Leaders, night time division supervisor
    • 23 Labor and Delivery Beds
    • 3 “Natural” birthing center beds
    • 19  High-risk antepartum beds
    • 9 bed OB/GYN Emergency Department (staffed by NPs with Laborist oversight)
    • 63 bed Mother-Baby (post-partum) unit
    • Well-baby Nursery
    • Transition Nursery
    • 52 Bed NICU
    • OB Surgery Center with 6 operating rooms, prep/recovery area
    • Level 4 Maternity Designation (highest acuity designation in TN)
    • Level 3 NICU Designation (next to highest level acuity designation in TN)
    • Patient & Family learning center (community education)
    • Nurse Residency Program
    • 24/7 Laborist Program
    • OB Medical Residency Program
    • Birth design program
    • Outpatient Breastfeeding Clinic accepts all patients in need but focuses on the poor




  • 5 years of experience required.
