JOB SUMMARY:

Works under the direction of a qualified professional nurse. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, within the objectives, standards, and policies of the department and within the parameters of his or her preparation. Cooperates with the members of the nursing and medical staffs and other hospital departments.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited LPN program.

Minimum Work Experience: Experience in hospital acute care setting preferred.

Required Skills: Excellent customer service skills. Self-directing. Able to work with little direct supervision. Empathy for the needs of patients. Effective oral and written communication skills. Treats patients and others with courtesy and respect, presenting a positive public image. Works well as a team member. Ensures confidentiality and security of patients' medical information.

Required Licenses: Licensed Practical Nurses; Current LPN license to practice in the state.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients based on the application of scientific principles, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. Assists in preoperative, postoperative, and relevant health teaching for patient and family. Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans and nursing care including basic care such as vital signs, linen change, and patient activities of daily living. Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas among team members including taking patient report handoff from ED. Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed practical nurse. Performs more-complex nursing activities as competence increases. Participates in emergency care. Performs COVID nasal swab test and dressing changes when appropriate. Communicates frequently with the team leader regarding patients' physical and mental conditions. Records information concisely, accurately, and completely which includes the Admission History and subsequent Physical Assessment in the medical record (initial Physical Assessment to be done by RN). Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication. Receives and enters phone orders from hospital providers.
