THE POSITION: The selectee for this position will serve as a Registered Nurse in the Labor and Delivery (L&D) Unit, Directorate for Nursing Services of Naval Medical Center San Diego.

L&D is seeking highly motivated and talented nurses to join our team of high performing clinical professionals who provide care support to Active Duty members, retirees, and their families.

As qualified L&D RN must have the knowledge, skills, and ability to function at the bedside and possess high-level skills in communication, collaboration, decision-making, systems-thinking, and computer literacy. The successful selectee will perform the follow duties:

· Provide comprehensive antenatal, perinatal, postpartum, perioperative, and PACU recovery care to low- and high-risk obstetric patients.

· Cross-train and float within Maternal Child Infant Nursing Department, providing care to high risk antepartum and postpartum women and well newborns.

· Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team to provide safe patient care.

· Comply with unit and facility policies and procedures.

· Participate in Performance Improvement projects, Evidence Based Practice, and/or Research studies

· Identify emergent and/or life threatening conditions and initiate the appropriate treatment utilizing current American Heart Association algorithms, Neonatal Resuscitation Program algorithms and other approved protocols.

2) EDUCATION: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School- Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign schools.

** It is preferred that applicants have a minimum of one (1) year recent high-risk obstetrical bedside maternal nursing, in a fast paced teaching hospital environment.

3) LICENSUREapplicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

· Must be a US Citizen.

· Must be determined suitable for Federal employment.

· Must participate in the direct deposit pay program

· May be required to successfully complete a probationary/trial period.

· Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g. confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

· Successful completion of pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. This position is subject to random drug testing.

· Must meet any applicable credentialing or privileging requirements prior to appointment.

· In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15E employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care; either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

· In accordance with BUMEDINST 6220.9B, this position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccination and a signed Condition of employment consenting to such.

· According to NMCPHC-TM-OEM 6260.7 Health Care Workers (HCW) with potential exposure to blood/infectious materials (BOPIMs) will be offered the hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) or immunity testing. Declination form may be required prior to reporting to work.

· RNC-OB is preferred but not required.

***A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment

requirements, including failure to report to any scheduled appointments.

HOURS:

· This is a permanent, full-time position.

· The incumbent will work rotating shifts to include weekends and holidays. Shift lengths may be 8, 10, or 12 hours.
