Job Summary:

The nurse educator is an integral member of the nursing leadership team who partners and collaborates with all members of the Perinatal, Newborn and Neonatal Intensive Care Team.

The nurse educator role reflects the Nursing Professional Development, Scope and Standards practice as approved by the American Nurses Association. The nurse educator for FBC reflects knowledge and expertise in Obstetrical and Neonatal nursing and collaborates with the unit manager and clinical nurse leader to monitor and maintain staff performance and patient outcomes in compliance with regulatory recommendations and requirements in the Perinatal Specialty Areas.

This specialized nursing practice facilitates professional role competence and professional growth of learners in a variety of settings; supports lifelong learning; utilizes tools, theories, skills and knowledge to improve healthcare practice for all learners. (Nursing Professional Development: Scope and Standards of Practice (harper & Maloney, 2016).

Responsibilities:

* Assesses learning needs based on regulatory requirements, evidence based practice and individual identified needs. Utilizes creative strategies and adult learning principles.
* Promotes professional nursing practice and quality patient care according to the ANA standards of practice; Endorses the theory based approach to the continuum of practice from Novice to Expert.
* Provides supportive consulting and participates in planned and unplanned process changes.
* Serves as a role model and guide for the professional development of nurses.
* Collaborates with members of the nursing leadership team to assess learning needs, develop programs, and monitor clinical competency and support action plans. Represents nursing in the development of interprofessional learning activities including practice drills on a regular cadence.
* Develops, educates, and implements quality improvement initiatives and outcomes. Works together with nursing leadership in FBC to assess and collect metrics supporting Perinatal/Neonatal safety initiatives.
* Develops, implements and manages competency based orientation.
* Develops and facilitates initial and ongoing competencies.
* Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

Licensure, Certification, Registration

*
Licensed Registered Nurse from the CT DPH obtained prior to hire date.

*
Specialty Certification in Obstetric and/or Neonatal nursing

*
BLS required

* EFM Certification and Neonatal Resuscitation Preferred or obtained within one year of start
* Specialty Certification in Nursing Professional Development preferred.

Experience:

* Minimum of 5 Years of active Nursing experience

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

* Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver and evaluate educational programs.

Education:

* BSN degree or higher required, One degree must be in nursing (Either BSN or MSN) If BSN, candidate required to obtain MSN within 2 years of hire.
* Master's degree or higher in nursing education preferred.
