The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides comprehensive, cost effective, innovative health care to women across the lifespan focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, family planning, and gynecologic care. The CNM practices within a health care system that provides for consultation, collaborative management or referral as indicated by the health status of the client in accordance with the American College of Nurse Midwives Standards for the Practice of Nurse-Midwifery.
Interpersonal Relationships/Organizational Expectations:
1. Commitment to providing health care to families in a medically underserved community.
2. Willingness to be flexible in the development of new methods of health service delivery.
3. Ability to deal with sensitive information in a highly confidential manner.
4. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, health care professionals,
funders and other regulatory agencies.
5. Bilingual in English and another language appropriate to the health center's patient population preferred, but not required.
6. Ability to function independently with minimal supervision, and to plan, coordinate, and carry out those tasks necessary to meet
the job responsibilities.
7. Awareness of resources available within the health center to accommodate the needs of patients.
8. Commitment to providing cost conscious, fiscally responsible, timely, efficient, effective, safe, patient-centered, culturally
competent, equitable, and participatory health care. 9. Processes personal health information in accordance
with FHC HIPPA policies and procedures.
Educational Requirements:
Must be a Graduate of an ACNM accredited nurse midwifery program. Master's Degree in Nursing or related field required.
Experience Required:
Minimum of two years of relevant experience as a certified nurse midwife is strongly preferred with demonstrated ability to work independently.
Professional Licensure/Special Skills and Certification Required:
Current licensure by Massachusetts Board of Nursing required. National certification as a nurse midwife is required. Current DEA/Mass Controlled Substance license
for prescriptive authority required. BLS required.
Reporting Relationship:
Reports directly to the Medical Director of Primary Care Services
